2009 Chilean Tour underway
Two events of the Chilean National Surfing Tour have been held. The first competition took place in La Serena, where Iquique-born Juan Carlos Lombardi obtained first place. Then it was the turn of Reñaca, in the 5th Region, where the multifaceted Diego Medina, born in Horcón and now resident of Punta de Lobos, Pichelemu, seized the championship easily, surprising the locals that always managed to impose their surfing at this beach.
Unfortunately, surfing is not exempt of the world economic crisis and the programmed competition in Maitencillo on February 13 to 15, has been cancelled.

Likewise, the first event of the Chilean Surf Professional Circuit (CPF) has also been cancelled due to economic problems. The sponsors blames the crisis for not being able to reassure their presence in this event.
The other dates, Iquique (May 22-24), Serena (to be confirmed, could be September 8-10) and Pichilemu (December 10-12), as programmed by the Federation, are guaranteed. The Federation has pledged to continue working to overcome other problems and to consolidate national surfing.
