Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship 2009 update
Surfing Australia is pleased to announce the Australian Junior Surf Team to represent Australia in Ecuador.
Under 18 boys
Dean Bowen (Gerroa, NSW), Jordi Watson (Currarong, NSW), Davey Cathels (Narrabeen, NSW), and Garrett Parkes (Byron Bay, NSW).
Under 16 boys
Cooper Chapman (North Narrabeen, NSW), Dylan Cummings (Noraville, NSW), Matt Banting (Port Macquarie, NSW), and Creed McTaggert (Margaret River, WA).
Under 18 Girls
Paige Haggerston (Coal Point, NSW), Kirby Wright (Lennox Head, NSW), Laura Enever (North Narrabeen, NSW), and Tyler Wright (Lennox Head, NSW).
Laureus Sports Ambassadors support Indigenous Surf program.
Ambassadors of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation took time out from their busy schedules to support the Indigenous Surf Program. Layne Beachley, Cathy Freeman, Steve Waugh, Daley Thompson and Robbie Naish all took to the waves to support the program developed by Surfing Victoria and the Wathaurong Community with decathlete Daley Thompson and cricketer Steve Waugh taking to the waves for their first time.
The program is one of a many being initiated across Australia.
The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation is an international charity organization using sport to support over 60 programs worldwide and was introduced to the program through Surfing Australia’s partnership with the Australian Sports Commission. Go to www.laureus.com for further information.
Surfing Australia announces new CEO
Andrew Stark has been appointed the new CEO of Surfing Australia. Andrew Stark is currently the CEO of state branch Surfing Queensland and replaces Mark Lane.
Norm Innes, Chairman of Surfing Australia, said, “The Board is very pleased to welcome Andrew to Surfing Australia. Andrew has “runs on the board” in Event Management, Education Development and Sport Administration and we look forward to him bringing his skills to the challenges of the national organization.”
About the International Surfing Association (ISA)
The International Surfing Association (ISA) is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the World Governing Authority for surfing, bodyboarding and surfriding. It was originally founded as the International Surfing Federation in 1964 and has been running world championships since 1964 and the Junior World Championships since 1980.
ISA membership includes the surfing National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of over 50 countries on six continents. Its headquarters are located in San Diego, California. It is presided by Fernando Aguerre, first elected in 1994 in Rio, and re-elected six times since. The ISA's four Vice Presidents are Alan Atkins (Australia), Robin de Kock (South Africa), Mike Gerard (USA) and Karin Sierralta (Peru).
