All Eyes on Peru
After more than ten years, Peru is once again the scenery of the ASP World Surf Championships. From 23 to 25 January, the San Bartolo beach south of Lima, will gather together the best world, Latin and national exponents in the World Qualifying Series (WQS) event; while from January 30 to February 1, it will be the ladies’ turn on the same beach.
Additionally, on Saturday January 24, at 8pm, the Samsung Night Session will take place, where the best maneuver will take a prize of 1500 dollars. The night will end with a Rip Curl bikini runway show and a fireworks display.
The president of FENTA, Eduardo Cáceres, commented during a press conference, that Peru is growing surf-wise and managing 2009 to begin surfing events at a world level.
Cristobal gets ready for the ISA World Juniors
The young and renowned Peruvian surfer, Cristobal de Col, has been training in the FAE beach, Ecuador where the 2009 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship will take place on the last days of March. The young De Col made the most of the fair conditions, since it is important for him to prepare himself with all kinds of waves, thus being prepared for any situation during that important event.
After leaving Ecuador, Cristobal as well as his sister Nadja and his father José “Titi” De Col will travel to the north of Peru in search of good waves, finally returning to Lima in time for the ASP Championship in San Bartolo.
Shaper backs Jarita Gómez
Peruvian shaper Javier Orna has decided to supply boards to our big wave surfer, José “Jarita” Gómez Javier, who lives in Costa Rica. The leader of Banzaii Surfboards and representative of Linden Surfboards for Central America decided to do this after seeing him in the +Nada magazine, where Jarita tells all he had to undergo in order to surf the Californian gigantic waves.
Javier will give José Gomez the necessary surfboards to ride the huge waves of Mavericks, something he is anxiously looking forward to.
