Jason Torres won in Tamarindo and postulates the national title
Jason Torres from Jaco won the second consecutive national competition, this time in Tamarindo, and strongly positioned himself at the top ranking, especially after his stronger competitors in this standing abandoned the race in the semifinals and quarter-finals.

His immediate follower, Carlos Muñoz, did accompany him in the Open finals. Previously positioned ninth and with a third place obtained in Tamarindo, he does not represent a major pressure to Torres at this time.

The grand final was run by the surfers Torres, Esterillos-born Muñoz, the local Federico Pilurzo and another Jaco athlete, Juan Carlos Naranjo. They ran one of the most difficult finals in the history of the National Circuit.

ISA Managing Director visits Costa Rica
International Surfing Association Managing Director, Stephanie Keith, visited Costa Rica on Thursday 8 and Friday 9 of January in preparation of the 2009 Billabong ISA World Surfing Games.

She met with the governing body of the Surf Federation, and the directors of the Costa Rica Tourism Board (ICT, for its Spanish acronym), and members of the Jaco Municipality and Chamber of Commerce.
First stage of the Metropolitan Tour coming up
The first phase of the Metropolitan Surfing Circuit will kick off on Saturday, January 24 in the waves of Jaco.  The tour was created for all those surfers that live in areas with no coasts, such as the capital San José, Cartago, Alajuela and Heredia.

This initiative of the Federation aims to encourage surfing throughout the country, so all Costa Ricans can improve their surfing performance and integrate themselves in the national competitive activities.

Surf Federation and local surfers will capacitate the press (technically) for the World Games
In a great initiative by the Federation, two eight-hour training days for the national press, so they learn the ABCs of surfing competitions.

These courses are being carried out due to the occurrence of the 2009 Billabong ISA World Surfing Games in August.  The Federation seeks for all the press to understand the details that take place during a surfing event.
