Chilean Federation announces 2009 Calendar of Events
The Chilean Surfing Federation presented the 2009 Circuit Calendar, with an evidently greater amount of championships than the previous year.  Federation members were consulted and commented:

“The events last year that counted points for the national ranking were restricted and a good amount of those that wanted to participate were left out.  We considered that this could not happen since the championships would occur anyhow, thus directly benefit the local surfers.  We are interested in integrating all persons that want to back the development of surfing, and the occurrence of these events is exactly what allows integrating the communities of this sport”.

And what happens with the backing of these events by the Federation?
This year, unfortunately and until the present date, the tour does not have a sponsor that would allow us to supply the same support we have in 2008, but we haven’t ceased to look for one since other types of engagements exist, such as the international events, where we want to back our team members so they are able to participate in the schedule projected for 2009.

This year two types of circuits were presented.  What does this mean?
We have seen Chilean surf has grown, but this is no reason for us to detach ourselves from one of the principles that most unites us, which is family and surfing.
We want to preserve the familiar spirit of surfing and at the same time give it professional standards.  This is the reason for the creation of the Professional Surfing Circuit (CPS, for its initials in Spanish), that gets started this year and where the best professional surfers of the previous year (2008) will participate.

This is exclusive for Chilean surfers who have made of this sport their lives, and we want to support them.  We have found some difficulties this year mainly due to the crisis of which we are not excluded, but we are working for its consolidation.

The other is the Qualifying Surfing Circuit (CCF, for its initials in Spanish).  This is the basis of everything; it’s our regular circuit, where all those that register and are interested in participating in a federate surfing championship can participate.  In this case, the organizers’ criteria will allow including international surfers, but these will not participate in the national ranking.

Today there are thirteen confirmed events for this strong circuit, of which half plus one of the events carried out during 2009 will compose each surfer’s personal ranking.  It is here that we must explain a very important fact: every surfer that wishes a place in the 2009 Ranking must pay his/her surfing club where the athlete is associate, a ranking right.

This has as an objective to order the people that participate in these events and to give more body precisely to one of the most important bases of Chilean surf.  The Clubs, which did not gave us much backing until today, will count with at least this obligation on the part of surfers to participate in these institutions.

All this information, regarding how to affiliate to a club, and the ranking rights, can be found in the Federation’s web page: www.fechsurf.cl

In this way the Chilean Surfing Federation gives a green flag to Chilean Surf in this 2009, and kicks off at the famous Serena location on this 24th January, in a 3-star event.
