Italy goes to Portugal with full team

The Italian Surfing Federation will be participating in the 2008 ISA World Surfing Games with a full team. This is one of the biggest surfing events of the world and it will take place from October 11-19 in Costa de Caparica’s waves, Portugal.

Italy will compete against other countries that will fight for a place in the podium of the overall nations ranking.

Even though Italy doesn’t have an ocean coast, the country has a great surfing tradition. They have participated in all ISA World Surfing Games’ previous editions. In the last one, at Huntington Beach, California 2006, they obtained the 20th position. Italy got its best result in Durban’s waves, South Africa in 2002, where the Italian Team obtained the 17th position.

About International Surfing Association
The International Surfing Association (ISA) is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the World Governing Authority for surfing, bodyboarding and surfriding. It was originally founded as the International Surfing Federation in 1964 and has been running world championships since 1964 and the Junior World Championships since 1980. 

ISA membership includes the surfing National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of over 50 countries on six continents. Its headquarters are located in San Diego, California. It is presided by Fernando Aguerre, first elected in 1994 in Rio, and re-elected six times since.  The ISA's four Vice Presidents are Alan Atkins (Australia), Robin de Kock (South Africa), Maile Aguerre (Hawaii) and Mike Gerard (USA).
