Chaplaincy
CSI is serving the ASP with one year of chaplaincy, a whole new aspect in surfing. So far chaplains have been present at 18 events, with another 12 to go including the Triple Crown. Contest director at the WQS event at the Maldives reports that chaplain coordinator Brad Whittaker was a great help counseling a staff worker who had recently dealt with a double drowning in Sri Lanka en route to the event. Former pro surfers George Hulse and Bryan Jennings will be teaming up for Trestles event and pastor of North Shore Christian Fellowship church Mike Stangel for the Triple Crown.
CSI 8th International Conference J-Bay August 10-15
Some 120 surfers from 15 nations will gather for our 8th International Conference in J-Bay. We look forward to inspirational speaking, meeting and surfing.
Surfers Bible
Produced by a surfer for surfers, this is an easily read New Testament with surfing life stories from shortboarders including CJ & Damien Hobgood and Bethany Hamilton, shapers like Al Merrick and Eric Arakawa, bodyboard legends Alistair and Karla Taylor, surf media personalities Shane and Shannon McIntyre and longboard legend Skip Frye. Due to release in October with a Spanish version coming soon as well.
Bali Youth Centre Anniversary
In August, the 1st anniversary of ‘Elevate’ the Bali youth and community centre is celebrated. CSI seeks to support the vocational training, skate park and youth events utilized in this facility.
Sumatra Holidays With Purpose
CSI teams have been supporting Channa and crew on the Indo Jiwa boat as it does aid work throughout the Hinako islands and Nias. Great work is being done with the Coconut Kids Club, palm oil production, water wells and canoe project. www.holidayswithpurpose.com
Fiji Surfing Association expresses its thanks to the two CSNZ teams that came over to offer surf coaching and life coaching to their junior surfers. They look forward to ongoing partnerships.
El Salvador CS have purchased a block of land to develop as a youth centre for local surfers. Salvador Castellanos is stoked to see so many kids coming along and they have outgrown their previous facility.
About International Surfing Association
The International Surfing Association (ISA) is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the World Governing Authority for surfing, bodyboarding and surfriding. It was originally founded as the International Surfing Federation in 1964 and has been running world championships since 1964 and the Junior World Championships since 1980.
ISA membership includes the surfing National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of over 50 countries on six continents. Its headquarters are located in San Diego, California. It is presided by Fernando Aguerre, first elected in 1994 in Rio, and re-elected six times since. The ISA's four Vice Presidents are Alan Atkins (Australia), Robin de Kock (South Africa), Maile Aguerre (Hawaii) and Mike Gerard (USA).
