Liquid Nation Ball 5

The SIMA Humanitarian Fund presents the Liquid Nation Ball 5 to be held in La Jolla, CA on September 5, 2008 at the house of the ISA President and SIMA Humanitarian Fund Vice President, Fernando Aguerre.

In five short years, this event has become one of the surf industry’s can’t-miss events and a guaranteed sell-out!

You’ll join friends, surf industry legends and surf stars at the ocean-front home of Fernando and Vicky Aguerre for an amazing night of dancing, live music, great food, open bar and a short live auction of a unique collection of one-of-a-kind items to benefit 14 surf-related humanitarian organizations.

The Humanitarian of the Year Dr. Dave Jenkins, Founder and Medical Director of SurfAid International will be honored.

Important facts
“253,000 Americans suffer from spinal cord injuries and approximately 11,000 new injuries occur every year”

“Over 50% of Mentawai children die before reaching the age of 5 years from preventable diseases such as malaria, measles, tetanus, and diarrhea.”

“Approximately 10,000 women under the age of 40 will be diagnosed with breast cancer each year and close to 1,500 will die.”

“In the world, 1.1 billion people lack access to clean drinking water and nearly 2 million people die each year due to waterborne-related disease, 90% of which are children under the age of 5.”

“18% of children (nearly 13 million U.S. children) live in families with income below the official poverty measure.”

“In the Central and Southeast San Diego neighborhoods served by Liquid Nation beneficiaries, 40% of residents live below the poverty threshold, compared to 13% regionally.”

“More than 50% of Mentawai’s families have suffered the death of at least one child.”

These harsh numbers are just a glimpse into the world the Liquid Nation Ball Beneficiaries fight to change.  Whether it is saving a family the grief of losing their child to an illness as simple as diarrhea or giving an at-risk youth the opportunity to surf at the local beach instead of taking part in gang activities – you can make a difference.

Your support and contribution to Liquid Nation Ball gives you the opportunity to make an impact globally for surf-related humanitarian causes.  Please join us for just one night and save a life.

All proceeds from Liquid Nation Ball 5 will benefit 14 surf-related social and humanitarian non-profit organizations selected by the SIMA Humanitarian Fund board of directors for their efforts in areas such as spinal cord injury, breast cancer education, malaria prevention, at-risk youth, mental health and autism.
