DENNY IRISH JUNIOR SURFING CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Denny Irish Junior Surfing Championships will take place in Rossnowlagh, Co Donegal on the 23rd and 24th of August. The event will include U10s Expression Session, U10 Boys & Girls Surf, U12 Boys & Girls Surf, U14 Boys & Girls Surf, U16 Boys & Girls Surf, U18 Boys & Girls Surf, U18 Boys & Girls Bodyboard, U18 Boys & Girls Bodyboard.
Entries will be taken at 9.00am on Saturday morning and heats will commence at 10am. Entry fee €15. All competitors must produce ISA membership card to enter. Membership will not be available at the event therefore must be arranged prior to the event.
Please note the Denny Irish Junior Surfing Championships is open to Irish citizens or British Citizens born in Northern Ireland. The appropriate passport or other documentation to prove entitlement to passport may be requested upon entry.
The event will be hosted by the Irish Surfing Association and Rossnowlagh Surf Club and is supported by Denny, Alder Sportswear, Onboard, Wind and Wave and Lahinch Surf School.
SPONSORED PADDLE, NORTH WEST SURF CLUB
Members of the North West Surf Club took part in a sponsored paddle on the weekend of August 9 and 10. The paddle was across Ballymastocker Bay to Portsalon Pie, Co. Donegal, a distance of nearly 3km! Although only a handful of people took part the club raised over 1300 Euros for the Lough Swilly RNLI.
The North West Surf Club was established in early 2007 for the increasing number of surfers in the Derry/North Donegal area, and to date have run several successful events for their members. The next event is the Wildstyle competition held in September, which was won last year by Irish team member Eoin McCarthy-Deering.
About International Surfing Association
The International Surfing Association (ISA) is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the World Governing Authority for surfing, bodyboarding and surfriding. It was originally founded as the International Surfing Federation in 1964 and has been running world championships since 1964 and the Junior World Championships since 1980.
ISA membership includes the surfing National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of over 50 countries on six continents. Its headquarters are located in San Diego, California. It is presided by Fernando Aguerre, first elected in 1994 in Rio, and re-elected six times since. The ISA's four Vice Presidents are Alan Atkins (Australia), Robin de Kock (South Africa), Maile Aguerre (Hawaii) and Mike Gerard (USA).
