On Thursday, April 17 at 8 p.m. the presidents and representatives of the member states of the federation gathered on an extraordinary meeting. The meeting was aimed at discussing why the federation has not yet consolidated, deciding to remove from office the president and the whole board for having disobeyed and violated the rules that apply to Mexican surfing.

All the members in the meeting voted for the new authorities, the oceanographer Luis Skeen de Alba from Sinaloa to become the new President and leader of the Mexican Surfing Federation A.C.

David Hernández from Quintana roo was elected vice-president, Alfonso Polidura from Federal District as the Secretary, Arturo Monroy from Guerrero the treasurer, Edgar Álvarez from Colima the Honour and Justice commissioner. The rest of the members of the board: from Oaxaca Raúl Loyola, from Guerrero Leonel Pérez and from Nayarit, Guillermo Cadena.

The new board of directors will be on charge from April 18, 2008 to April 17, 2012.

The first appointment of a commission, which this new board gave, was Francisco Samperio from Oaxaca as Technical Coordinator, and the second one was Isaac Ávila from Guerrero as Press Coordinator.

Among Skeen de Alba and his new board’s priority are:

* To register the new board of directors,

* to be up to date with ISA’s fees

* to organize the presentation-reception with the previous board,

* to get Mexican representatives in the next World games,

* to work hard for the federation to become a member of the organizations of control from our country: CODEME, CONADE.

About Luís Skeen de Alba
The oceanographer Luis Skeen de Alba is taking up again the control of the FMS. He had been the founding president of the federation and he had worked for 16 years in the Mexican Surfing Association predecessor of the federation. This association had taken Mexico to its first participation in a World game in Puerto Rico 1988, in Japan 1990, France 1992, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 1994 where the Panamerican Surfing Assosiation was founded, in United Status 1996, Portugal 1998, Recife, Brazil 2000 and South Africa 2002.

We’ve done a lot from those times but we still have a lot to do and we need to let the people know what we’ve done. So we ask all the media support to inform about our surfing. I’ve just come back from a meeting in Guadalajara with the five companies that have showed interest in joining us and sponsoring the FMS.

The members of the Consultative Council of Mexican Surfing were also in the meeting, they will give us some advise on the management and projects of the Technical Council of the Federation. We also have a marketing and advertising company preparing a project for big companies that are interested in sponsoring. There are a lot of projects in this moment and we ask you to keep supporting Mexican surfing.
