South Africa looking forward to keep the winning streak in France
Two months after a comfortable win in the 2008 ISA World Masters Surfing Championship in Peru, now is the chance for the best young South African surfers to represent their country in the biggest Under 18 surfing tournament in the planet, the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship, that will be held from May 24 until June 1 in the waves of Hossegor-Seignosse-Capbreton, France.
A strong team of junior surfers will represent South Africa, including:
Boys Under 18
Chad du Toit
Shaun Joubert
Nick Godfrey
Matthew Bromley
Boys Under 16
David Brand
Michael February
Dane Staples
Beyrick de Vries
Girls Under 18
Bianca Buitendag
Tarryn Chudleigh
Chantelle Rautenbach
Sarah Baum
South Africans have a great collection of good results in the five previous editions of the event. They have placed 4th in 2003, 5th in 2004, 2005 and 2006 and 7th last year in Portugal.
Some great individual South African performances in the previous events include today’s WCT sensation Jordy Smith, winning the Gold in the Under 16 division in 2003, Copper in the Under 18 in 2005 and Silver in the same division in 2006. Also, Shaun Joubert who will be competing this year in the Under 18 division won Bronze in the Under 16 in 2006.
As a new surfing power there are a lot of expectations on how the South African Team is going to perform in French waters this year.
