ISA President Fernando Aguerre named Honorary Guest and Honorary Member of the Waikiki Surf Club in Peru
On March 30, 2008, right after the Sands of the World Ceremony, that opened the ISA World Masters Surfing Championship, in Lima, Peru, the participating teams attended a welcome party organized by one of the oldest surfing clubs in the world, the Waikiki Surf Club.
During the memorable cocktail, after welcoming all the competitors from 18 different countries that traveled to Peru to compete and enjoy Peruvian hospitality, food and local waves, ISA President Fernando Aguerre was named Honorary Guest by Waikiki Club, in a friendly sign of respect and admiration on the part of the club’s Board of Directors.
A week later the General Assembly of the Club, named Fernando Aguerre Honoray Member of the Club. Also named to this very special membership were Peruvian legendes ISF Founder and former President, Sr. Eduardo Arena and Sr Augusto Felipe Weise.
The Waikiki Surf Club is one of the oldest on the planet, founded during the early forties, and has been a pioneering force for the development of surfing in Peru and the rest of Latin America.
About International Surfing Association
The International Surfing Association (ISA) is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the World Governing Authority for surfing, bodyboarding and surfriding. It was originally founded as the International Surfing Federation in 1964 and has been running world championships since 1964 and the Junior World Championships since 1980.
ISA membership includes the surfing National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of over 50 countries on six continents. Its headquarters are located in San Diego, California. It is presided by Fernando Aguerre, first elected in 1994 in Rio, and re-elected six times since. The ISA's four Vice Presidents are Alan Atkins (Australia), Robin de Kock (South Africa), Maile Aguerre (Hawaii) and Mike Gerard (USA).
