Aussies ready to defend the Juniors Title

Surfing Australia, the National Governing Body of Surfing in the most developed surfing country in the world, announced the super team that will represent and defend the Juniors title in the 2008 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship that will take place from May 24 until June 1 in Hossegor, France.

The Aussies dominated this event in three out of five occasions, winning in Tahiti in 2004, in Brazil in 2006 and Portugal last year. They go to this year’s event as the favourite with a “dream team” that includes:

Under 18 Boys
Owen Wright
Chris Friend
Chris Salisbury
Mitch Crews
Under 16 Boys
Max Ayshford
Jake Sylvester
Thomas Woods
Khai Adams

Under 18 Girls
Laura Enever
Tyler Wright
Kirstie Jones
Tiana Mc Neve

Australians are amped for this competition, as they say on their official webpage: “Every year the opportunity arises for all surfers globally – to surf for their country in the worlds only two team based surfing events – The ISA World Junior Surfing Championships and the ISA World Surfing Games.

The event is likened to the “Olympics of Surfing” and is the only opportunity for surfers to Surf for their country. In the case of Team Australia campaigns in 2008, the only opportunity for Australian surfers to wear the green and gold, rally behind the nation.”
Those who wear the Green and Gold are favourites and have the big responsibility to defend the last three titles that the Aussies have won. Let’s wait and see what happens in France.
