Gabriel Escudero, the best surfer in Ecuador

Gabriel Escudero, from Puerto Rico, obtained his first ALAS Latin Tour Open victory in the third stage in Ecuador during the third weekend of February.

“This is my first check, my first triumph in the ALAS tour, the biggest prize that I’ve ever won, it’s a dream came true. To Puerto Rico!” said Escudero once he became champion at Montañita.

This was not an easy task for the Puerto Rican. Rafael “Nono” Pereyra was also determined to win the Open division. This time, the promising Venezuelan surfer couldn’t beat Escudero’s experience. Escudero was solid in the competition and focused on winning. The final score was 13.10 for the Puerto Rican surfer to 11.34 for Pereyra.

Josie Graves, the other Puerto Rican surfer, ended up on the ninth place after he lost the sixth round against Argentinean surfer Martin Passeri.

Nowadays, Gabriel Escudero is in the 17th place in the ALAS rankings, after his participation in Peru and Ecuador. Whereas Josie Graves is in the 12th place after he participated in the four stages of the tour.
