Positive evaluation of the Chevrolet Peruvian Surfing Tour

After three of the eight stages of the National Surfing Championship, the level of competition has increased more and more.   

The 2008 Chevrolet Peruvian Surfing Tour, presented by Movistar, began with perfect organization and with the attendance of the best national surfers. Groups of children and teenagers who are surfing great could be seen. And that makes the National Surfing Federation (FENTA) proud about this sport’s future.

All the divisions ended up with pretty tight scores because there are a lot of good candidates that are still fighting for the title. After having competed at Máncora, San Bartolo and Cerro Azul, there are a lot of athletes in the way to the 2008 national crown.
The divisions for this year’s competitions are: Open and Under 18 Men and Female, Under 16 and Under 12 Men, Under 14 Female and the traditional Longboard and Master divisions.

After the competition in Cerro Azul, Gabriel Villaran is still in first place in the Open Men division with 1860 points. Even without competing in the last stage because he was in Montañita, Ecuador, he maintained himself on the top after winning at Mancora and getting a second at San Bartolo. Gabriel leads the ranking followed by Salvador Voysest with 1768 points, and Gonzalo Velazco, the winner at Cañete, who scored 1750 points.

In the female competition, either Brissa Málaga or Alexia Jerí has chances to be champion this year. Malaga won the competitions at Mancora and Cerro Azul and she was third at San Bartolo.
She leads with 2730 points. Whereas Jerí, who is just fifteen years old, earned first place at San Bartolo and she has 2530 points. The next opportunity for them to keep fighting for the female national title will be at La Isla, Punta Hermosa.

In the Under 18 division for men, Piero Delucchi is first with 2590 points, followed by Miguel Tudela with 2400. Miguel is also just fifteen years old and he is already competing among great athletes.

In the Female Under 18 division, Alexia Jerí is first with 2860 points, second is Natalia Labarthe with 2190. And close to them is Nadja de Col (1860), who couldn’t compete at Cerro Azul because she was also at Montañita. In the Under 16 division Miguel Tudela (2590) and Martín Jerí (2460) are in first place. And in the Under 12 division Lucca Mesinas (2730), who has a very promising career, is followed by Lucca Saldívar (2720).
