The first big stage of Panamanian surfing is coming closer
Balboa Surf Tour 2008 will start next weekend in Paunch Beach-Bocas del Toro. Thanks to Daihatsu Terios, more than 50 surfers will gather there to fight for the Tropix Cup where more than $1,500 in prizes will be delivered.
Balboa and Daihatsu Terios have become part of the National Surf Tour 2008, the tour will have 7 national and 2 international events. The first stage of the National Surf Tour will take place next weekend, January 26-27, in Bocas del Toro.
The divisions that will compete in the event are: open, ladies, men bodyboard, longboard and junior. The registration is available in Flow, Boa Surf House and Super Deportes until Thursday 24th at 2.00 p.m.
The prices are: $20.00 for Open, Junior division is free and $10.00 for the rest of the divisions. Registrations at the beach will not be allowed.
The competition will start at 9.00 a.m. on Saturday and at 8.00 a.m on Sunday.
“Bocas del Toro has no difference between the high and low tide and that will be helpful for the competition” said Raul Stanford, head judge of the Panamanian Surfing Association. “Right now, the Caribbean is the best place for competitions because it has very good waves all the time from January to March”.
The 2007 National Surf Tour was outstanding, Edgar “Gary” Saavedra became one more time the National Champion in the Open division, Enilda “Samanta” Alonso in the female division, Italo Izola in Longboard, Edilberto “Arielito” Navarro in bodyboard and David Godoy in junior.
The National Surf Tour is posible thanks to BALBOA, Daihatsu Terios, Tropix Surf Shop, Inde, Totto, Swatch, Airwalk, Sportek, Stayfit, La Prensa, La Cáscara, Radio Mix and Blast.
