Sally Fitzgibbons’ name resounded in 2006 when she obtained the Runner up position, after French Pauline Ado, in the ISA World Junior Surfing Championship that took place in Maresías, Brazil. That was the first hint of her great talent.
A year later, the Australian girl showed what a good surfer she was in Costa de Caparica, Portugal. There she beat her rivals after a memorable final that she had to get to in the repercharge final.
Australian Laura Enver, New Zealand Page Hareb and American Sage Ericson couldn’t do anything to stop the overwhelming Sally.
“This is amazing, I can’t describe this feeling, it’s really great! It’s been a long week, but the competition was fine. I knew the other girls were great so I went to search my two waves and tried to obtain the best score I could.
Now I will go home and enjoy my triumph”, said a happy Fitzgibbons.
Because of her victory in Portugal, she guaranteed herself a place in the trials of the biggest Women´s WCT event of the year, the NAB Beachley Classic.
She won the trials and went later to beat seven time World Champion Layne Beachley and CT star Claire Bevilacqua. Then, she faced Beachley again in the third round and lost with less than two points.
It’s meaningless to list all Sally Fitzgibbons’ good results. The essence of surfing is on the waves and the magic of some surfers is on anything that floats under their feet. Sally has a long list of tricks for her WCT career.
At this point, there is no doubt this Australian talent is destined to be one of the next big names in the sport.
