Aritz Aramburu was recognized by his people

December the 11th was a special day for Aritz Aramburu because he was welcomed by Zarautz people. First thing in the morning, a crowded press conference took place in Karlos Arguiñano’s Hotel where Aritz went through the most important events of this memorable year.

Aritz Aramburu had recently arrived from Hawaii and was accompanied by Aitor Francescena (Gallo, his coach), Adur Letamendia (Pukas manager), Jon Urien (Major of Zarautz) and Pierre one of  Quiksilver’s representative.

After the audience had given him a great ovation, he talked about how happy he was for the things he had accomplished this year, and he also said he was eager to start the tour “although just to see the fixture gets me nervous”, said.
Gallo y Aritz’s objective is to make a good job in the CT Tour without overlooking QS’ contests. “We have planned a very specific training and hard work in order to achieve these goals.”

Aritz will be one of the four European surfers that will be next year among the 45 best surfers along with Micky Picon, Jeremy Flores and Tiago Pires. “There will be a lot of Europeans in the tour this year, more than in any other occasion and that’s because surfing in Europe has improved a lot in the last years.”
Aritz also thanked to Ibon Amatriain. He met him in Hawaii during Eddie Aikau presentation. “Ibon has always been a model for me and it was really nice to be with him in Hawaii.”

Gallo said that he was very proud of having share this year with Aritz and that all the efforts they’ve made have been worth it. He congratulated his trainee and he added that they have great expectations for 2008.
On the other hand, Pierre said that he was really impressed during these days in Hawaii because of how respectful everybody was with Aritz.

The ceremony began with a path full of kids with their boards. Axi Muniain was the host of the ceremony. Julen Elkoro and Jokin Arroyo gave him several champion txapelas, a plate and even a Zarautz painting.

His fans and friends were there, like Adur Letamendía, Hodei Collazo, his coach Aitor Francesena, his parents and even his “amona”. No doubt, it was an unforgettable day for this great surfer.
