Strong presence from the Dominican Republic Surfing Federation
The Dominican Surfing Federation (FEDOSURF) was founded on March 6, 2002 and in this same year gained recognition from the Secretary of State of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (SEDEFIR), the Pan American Association of Surf (PASA) and the International Surfing Association (ISA).
Since it was founded, FEDOSURF held the National Surfing Tour to establish the National Ranking every year. By 2005, FEDOSURF had already received recognition from the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) and starting in 2006 the SEDEFIR began to assign a budget for FEDOSURF's administrative and operative expenses. In addition, SEDEFIR contributed resources so that the Dominican Republic could participate in two world events and two Pan American events.
The Top 5 in the Open Surf category are: Anderson "Willy" Hernández Valdéz of Puerto Plata, with 3,923 points, Junior Gómez of Río San Juan with 3,810 points, Amín Alexis Bueno (3,275 points) and Jesmarín Puente with 3,249 points.
Both Surfing Associations of Puerto Plata (ASPP) and of Marcos Saint Hilaire of Santo Domingo gained 2,951 points. In the Junior Surf category we had: Brandon Sanford (3,250 points), Edgar Santana (2,503 points) and Ángel Comprés (2,353 points), the three from Cabarete, and following them, León Gough of Boca Chica (1,745 points) and Juan Martínez of Puerto Plata (1,433 points).
In the Open Bodyboard category we had: Michael Álvarez (3,465 points) and Raúl Van Eiken with (3,154 points), both from Santo Domingo, Pascual Silverio of Sosúa (2,913 points), Julfrien Sims of Puerto Plata (2,848 points) and Luís Perallón of Santo Domingo (2,720 points).
In the Longboard category are: Marcos Saint Hilaire (3,935 points) and Daniel Álvarez (3,110 points), Luís Sebastián of Sosúa (3,313 points) and Alan Nadal of Santo Domingo (730 points).
This year, 2007, FEDOSURF relaunched its webpage www.fedosurf.org
