Peru once again lands the gold in the Open category
Javier Swayne was the great star of the Peruvian team during the 8th Pan American surfing games. He surfed very well and earned the gold medal with ease in the unstable conditions of Iquique.
Though Swayne was the Peruvian athlete with the best spot in the final ranking, the entire team performed well. They finished the contest in third instead of second due in part to the fact that they brought an incomplete team to Chile.
Another of the great leaders of the Peruvian team was the rising star athlete Analí Gómez, a surfer that will soon follow the footsteps of the genius Sofía Mulanovich. However, despite her good moments, she did not surf her best in the Chilean waves and this time "La Negra" finished in second place after the Brazilian Diana de Souza.
With Swayne´s victory, Perú claimed its third Pan American title in the Open category. Gabriel Aramburu snagged the first in 2003 and Gabriel Villarán received the second in 2006. Thus, the recent feat of Javier marks the third success of Peruvian surf in this category.
