Christian Surfers International ISA Report
October 2007
CSI exists to serve the world surfing community with the love of God. CSI is essentially local surfers from local churches interacting with their local communities. Our national groups interact with the amateur surfing bodies where they exist. Contact info@christiansurfers.net.
Bali Youth Centre Powers On – The opening of the first youth and community centre in Bali was supported by CS globally with numerous building teams assisting in final fix out including a skate ramp, café and kids club room for English teaching and vocational training. Some $US200,000 was raised globally and the local NGO expresses great thanks. Recent donations of computers have added this skill training. Bukit Boardriders have been stoked to meet there. Bethany Hamilton and Crew in New CSI ‘Faith in Action’ Surf Film – Nias, Indonesia – A film crew along with 7 pro surfers including Bethany Hamilton, former WCT surfer Glyndyn Ringrose and others worked and filmed on a recent Holidays With Purpose (www.holidayswithpurpose.com) boat trip to the Hinako islands on the Indo Jiwa. They shared waves and love with surf coaching, poured concrete, distributed boards and encouraged locals. The new film will accompany the Surfers Bible English version in which the surfer’s personal stories are enclosed.
The Surfers Bible – With over 75,000 distributed, the new edition has new stories from Bethany Hamilton, pro bodyboarder Brenden Newton, surf TV personalities Shayne and Shannon McIntyre and others. This is a surfer friendly New Testament available in 08.
South Africa (Son Surf Clubs) – Roy Harley reports that the ongoing Son Surf Schools at Durban and Capetown have had great impact in the disadvantaged community. Recent donation of soft top boards by Surftech so appreciated. Their 2007 national leadership conference was the largest ever, with over 100 present. Contact Roy Harley on roy@sonsurf.co.za.
UK Relief to Sri Lanka - Phil Williams from CSUK
phil@christiansurfers.co.uk reports that they are concerned with recent fighting in the Aragum Bay area. “We are stoked that we have been able to finance the school teachers of Aragum Bay, extend the orphanage and build a couple of other businesses up. Our final project is the Aragum Bay Surf Club building for local surfers but recent fighting has slowed much.”
El Salvador – The most recent CS affiliated nation partnered with a recent ‘Convoys of Hope’ that engaged relief supplies from the USA to relieve suffering in some of the poorer local beach communities. Youth activities are held weekly. Contact Salvador on scastellanos@telesal.net.
