The Surf Association of Guatemala – ASOSURF – has chosen the national team that will participate in the second edition of the Central American Surf Championship that is expected to start on March 30th.

The event will occur during three days and will be carried out at La Empalizada beach, located 140 km south of Guatemala City, in the department of Escuintla. Delegations from Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador and the host country are expected to congregate there.

According the official information released by ASOSURF directors, the Guatemalan team will be composed as follows:

Open Category: Daniel López, Abner Rivera, Cristian Méndez, Deyfri Ramírez and Alex Carranza.
Juniors: Jorge Navarrete, Harvy Gil, Mauricio Rivera, Gefre Lima and Moisés Blanco.
Ladies: Cindy Lone and Deymi Sandoval.

According to Julio Mejicanos, President of ASOSURF, the group of twelve competitors was selected according to their individual performances during the present National Surf Tour season.

“We have used this standard because we thought it was the fairest one. These measures allow us to consider adequately the sport merits of each one of the athletes in the Circuit. Furthermore, their performance at local events is a good test for these young people, who soon after the Central American championship, will have to confront more heavyweight rivals”, declared Mejicanos.

The first edition of the Central American Surf Championship was held at the Esterillos West Beach of Costa Rica in July 2006, where those responsible for Central American surfing, decided to organize a yearly regional competition.
