Friday, 26 July 2013 – Luke Hynd (Tallebudgera, QLD) has been named the Standout Surfer for TravelSIM Team Australia during the Dakine ISA World Junior Surfing Championship in Nicaragua.
Luke Hynd (AUS).
Hynd finished fourth in the Under 18 boys and played a major role in Australia returning with the teams’ gold medal from the event, which attracted more than 300 of the world’s best Under 18 and Under 16 surfers from more than 30 countries.
For winning the Standout Surfer title, Hynd has won a custom DHD surfboard.
TravelSIM Team Australia manager James Eggington said Hynd not only showed commitment to his own surfing but also to the success of the entire team.
“Luke ripped the whole way through the event and did not drop a heat all the way to the finals,” Eggington said. “He regularly claimed the top scores of the day and helped other Australian surfers get through tight heats with his heat strategies. In the final the waves simply did not go to Luke but there is no doubt he was the standout Australian performer.”
Shaper Darren Handley said Luke deserved all the success that was coming his way in surfing.
‘’For around the last five years in which Luke has been riding for me, a solid relationship has formed that I enjoy being a part of,” Handley said.
“Luke is a quiet person who listens more than he talks, but when he does talk he always brings valuable ideas and feedback to the table. As the relationship has grown and the communication channels opened, I have been able to work closely with Luke on his equipment to ensure he always has the best boards under his feet.
“I admire Luke’s commitment and passion towards surfing, which shines through in his ability to do what he does on a wave.”
