Iran Holds Historic First-Ever Surfing National Championships

History was made in Iran. The first-ever Iranian National championships, organized by I.R. Iran Surfing Association, were held on June 20 and 21, 2018 at Ramin Beach, Chabahar, Sistan and Baluchestan.

Before competition

Iran took a great stride in the development of Surfing in the country and held their first-ever National Championship.

About 45 athletes from Provinces including Mazandaran, Sistan and Baluchestan, Tehran, Hormozgan, and Qeshm Island competed in this historical event. The competitions were for adults, juniors aged 14-18, and juniors aged 10-14. There was also an inspiring event to find talented young kids during the main event, where Venous Balouch, a 7-year-old girl was the star of this event and demonstrated outstanding talent and a bright future for Iranian surfers. Moreover, Iran Surfing Association will be organizing an event for women in the near future.

The championships were all organized by I.R.Iran Surfing Association. Participation was free for Juniors and children of all provinces, and for all the local of Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

The I.R. Iran Surfing Association plans to send the top finishing adults to compete in Tahara, Japan at the ISA World Surfing Games in September of this year.

The U-14 Division preps for their heats in the National Championship.

The President of I.R. Iran surfing Association, Alireza Rostami Ezzat, said:

“Over the past two years since we established I.R. Iran Surfing Association, we have held more than 100 local events and courses for all ages, and two official ISA Courses for Surfing and StandUp Paddleboard (SUP). We have traveled to more than half of the beaches and lakes of Iran to identify the best places for surfing and SUP, and I have personally visited all the spots.

“I am pleased that in spite of all the ups and downs, we have successfully held the first-ever Iranian National Championships in the hottest days of the year and in the best quality. I am truly grateful for International Surfing Association’s support in developing Surfing and Paddleboard in Iran.”
