From April 30th to May 1st, Cayes-Jacmel was host to Haiti’s first international surfing competition. All eyes were on Cayes-Jacmel, more specifically Kabik Beach. All accounts reported the competition organized by Surf Haiti was a great success.
This competition was organized by Surf Haiti which, since 2010, continues its double mission to help the underprivileged children of the area by providing surfing tools, but also to establish Jacmel as tourist destination for surfers.
Like the neighboring republic that has developed a water sports performance industry, Haiti was slow to position themselves in this market despite its strong potential and ideal climatic conditions. This first experience as professional surfers will present amateur.
The competition is a partnership between Christian Surfers, Surf Haiti and the Dominican Republic. This partnership ensures the coming surfers from the Dominican Republic to count on the presence of expert judges and provides logistical and financial support to the realization of the event.
An important fact, since 2015 Surf Haiti became the 94th member of the International Surfing Association (ISA) with the aim to present a national surfing team for the Summer Olympics in 2020 in Tokyo.
