EVENT SITE INFORMATION
New Zealand is a relatively small country with only 4 million residents to enjoy 15,000 kilometers of jaw-dropping coastline surrounding terrain as varied and colorful as its rich cultural heritage. Its beautiful landscape has served as the backdrop for visually stunning films such as “Lord of the Rings”, “The Piano”, and “King Kong.” 65% of the population lives within 5 kilometers of the ocean. This proximity breeds a deep love and respect for the marine environment and as a result New Zealand has become a global leader in sustainable ocean policies.
Auckland is the capital and principal hub for the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships 2010. You will most likely arrive at Auckland International Airport only 21 kilometers from the city center. There are many transportation options from the Airport to the city center ranging from taxis to helicopters.
The surfing will take place at Piha Beach, approximately 40 minutes, or 38 kilometers from Auckland. However, teams are encouraged to stay in Auckland as there are more dining, lodging and entertainment options there. English is the main language spoken in New Zealand, although, Maori and New Zealand Sign Language are Official Languages as well. The official currency is the New Zealand Dollar and as of September 2009 the exchange rate is NZD$1=USD$0.70.
The entertainment, adventure and dining options in Auckland and the surrounding areas are almost endless. At Sky City alone, the preferred lodging for the WJSC 2010, you can work out in the gym, catch a movie or even go bungee jumping! If this isn’t enough, there is a nearby marina, shopping center, cruise terminal and also a Tourism Office that can answer any and all questions about fun activities nearby.
Piha, where the action will take place, lies to the west of Auckland. It is characterized by the huge rock outcropping known as Lion Rock. January is a prime month for waves in this region with wave-faces averaging 1 to 1.5 meters and water temps between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius or 66 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Typically, winds are offshore in the morning followed by light sea breezes in the afternoon and returning to offshore for sunset sessions.
Lion Rock used to be a key Pa (Fort) used by the Kaweru people to defend this beautiful coastline. It is surrounded by a small, tight-knit community dedicated to preserving its natural ambience and fragile ecosystem.

WEATHER FORECAST
The North Island of New Zealand is subtropical and the contest will be held during the warmest month. You can expect to see daytime highs between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius.
SURF FORECAST
The water temperature is expected to be between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius, perfect for a short-armed wetsuit. January is an ideal month for a surf competition at Piha Beach as wave faces are typically between 1 and 1.5 meters with offshore to light onshore winds. There is a variety of peaks surrounding Lion Rock: lefts, rights, bowls and shore pound.

There will be two locations for contest headquarters.

Registration, Manager’s Meeting, Judge’s Meeting and advance preparations will take place at the SkyCity Grand Hotel.
Beach HQ:
Offices will also be available at Piha Beach, south of Lion Rock, during competition days.

The main airport for arrivals is Auckland (AKL). The preferred airlines are Air New Zealand and Emirates. Surfing New Zealand is currently negotiating discounted flights with these airlines and special consideration has already been negotiated to include a 40kg luggage allowance for participants. GROUND TRANSPORTATION

To/From Airport:
The distance between Auckland International Airport and Sky City Hotel is 21 kilometers or 19 minutes. Once on the ground, you can choose to make the 21 km trip to the city center by bus, rental car or a VIP vehicle. Surfing New Zealand has ensured that dedicated airport shuttle’s are available to teams at a discounted rate of NZD$ 95. This is the flat fee for the vehicle which has a capacity of 11 people. This is NZD$ 8.60 per person if the vehicle is at max capacity.
The average taxi rate from Auckland Airport to the city center is NZD$60.

These need to be booked early as there are only a limited number of these vehicles available in January, which is high tourist season in New Zealand. Prices range from NZD$45 – NZD$160/day.
SkyCity Hotel To/From Contest Site:
Distance between Sky City Hotel and Piha Beach is 38 kilometers or approximately 40 minutes. Shuttle buses between Sky City Hotel and Piha Beach will be provided by Surfing New Zealand from SkyCity Hotel or you can choose to rent your own minibus or vehicle, as outlined above. Additional shuttle pick up locations will be addressed once we receive hotel bookings from teams. Buses are scheduled to depart to Piha beginning at 5:30am.
ACCOMMODATIONS
Preferred Accommodation – Sky City Hotel in Auckland
The Sky City Hotel in Auckland is the preferred lodging provider and a wonderful choice with very reasonable rates. For this reason we highly encourage you to choose Sky City Hotel, which will also serve as the main Headquarters for the contest including registration and all meetings. Rooms vary in cost, ranging between NZD$72 - $100 per person based on two people per room. This rate includes a 24 hour travel desk, a discounted meal plan, parking, a special surfers lounge or “chill zone”, entertainment by local bands, and swimming pool/gym/spa facilities.
Note – The NZD$72 per person per night rate at Sky City is available on a limited basis. Rooms at this rate are available on a first come first serve basis. Contact www.surfcentralnz.com for photo’s of rooms and to book in advance.
Meals, if booked at Sky City, will include breakfast and dinner at the hotel, and lunch at the beach. All three meals will cost between NZD$57 and NZD$65 per day per person depending on the package chosen. Special dinners will include Kiwi barbecues and Maori “hangis”.

Team confirmation, payment, seeded competitor lists and all documentation must be finalized with the ISA by 19 January 2010 to participate in the 2010 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship.
Team size is as follows:
- 4 Under 18 Boys
- 4 Under 16 Boys
- 4 Under 18 Girls
- Alternates, Team Officials and Team Supporters at the discretion of team management
* An Under 18 competitor may not turn 19 between January 1st and December 31st of the year in which they are competing in this Division. An Under 16 surfer may not turn 17 between January 1st and December 31st of the year in which they are competing in this Division. Proof of the age of Under 18 and Under 16 competitors must be submitted with team lists (a copy of passport or birth documentation is required).
REGISTRATION FEES
REGISTRATION FEES & OUTSTANDING BALANCES
Note: The registration fee is the same for all classes of registrants [athletes, managers, supporters, etc]
The ISA will only will accept USD$ during Team Registration and throughout the duration of the contest. Please bring correct payment in USD$.
The current rate for registration ranges from USD$175 to USD$200 per registrant. The ISA offers a discounted rate of USD $175 per registrant if received by the ISA 10 days prior to the close of registration.
NEW FOR 2010 WJSC – All participants will be fined USD$25 per participant if registration is processed on the FINAL day of registration. The $25 per registrant fine will be incurred by all teams who register on the final day – whether you pay on that day or if teams paid in advance but saved registration and paperwork for the FINAL day. The ISA highly encourages you to pay fees and register in advance.
For the 2010 WJSC:
- Teams will pay USD$175 per registrant if fees are received by end of day on 9 January 2010.
- Teams will pay USD$200 per registrant if fees are received between 10 and 18 January 2010.
- Teams will pay USD$200 + $25 per registrant if fees are received on 19 January 2010.
- Teams will pay USD$25 per registrant if fees are received in advance but registration occurs on 19 January 2010.
Items to note:
- Registration fees are applied to each team member, including but not limited to surfers, managers, coaches, translators, masseuse, supporters and additional parties. All registrants must sign an Indemnity Form.
- A surfer competing in more than one division is required to pay a Registration Fee for each division entered.
- Teams will be held accountable for payment of all registration fees of confirmed team members regardless of whether or not they are present.
- Alternates must be identified and paid for prior to close of registration to be eligible for participation in the contest.
- A nation will not be allowed to compete if it has any outstanding dues payable to the ISA. Contact ISA Executive Director, Stephanie Keith at stephaniekeith@isasurf.org to verify outstanding account balances.
REGISTRATION
Registration will take place during the day on the 17th, 18th and 19th of January. Please review the ISA's and keep track of what's needed with the Registration Checklist and the Packing List.

- Passports - All athletes' nationality and ages must be confirmed. Actual passport and clear copies of passports must be provided at time of registration
- Athlete Bios to be used for media purposes
- Therapeutic Use Exemption forms. These forms may be submitted via email or fax to the ISA HQ in advance of contest
- Indemnity form for each registered team member AND ALL REGISTERED PARTICIPANTS.
For Competitors Under 18yrs of age: FORM MUST BE COMPLETED AND SIGNED BY THE PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN. IF A LEGAL GUARDIAN IS APPOINTED, EACH ATHLETE MUST HAVE A LETTER SIGNED BY A PARENT, SPECIFICALLY NOTING WHO THE APPOINTED GUARDIAN IS. - Code of Conduct - forms must be completed and signed
- List of team email addresses
- Sand - 5 (five) pounds/2 (two) kilograms of sand from the beaches of your country for the Sands of the World Ceremony. Label the sand container with country and beach name.
- National Anthem to be provided to the ISA during registration if you have a new version or you know the ISA does not currently have it. Contact ISA HQ to confirm your countries anthem in needed.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Representation
A competitor may only represent a country if he/she holds a passport or certified documents of citizenship declaring eligibility for a passport of that country. Once a competitor has surfed for a country in any ISA event, he/she generally may not surf for another country at future ISA sanctioned International Events. If an athlete is allowed to represent a second nation based on the conditions set forth in Paragraph b of By-Laws to rule outlined below, he/she may not change back to representing his/her original country.
Special exemptions may be considered, however, after presentation to the Executive Committee at least three (3) months prior to the start of any ISA sanctioned event. Requests for exemption will only be considered if received in writing through the affiliated NGB to the Executive Committee via the ISA office, with certified copies of all relevant documentation (passport, letters from/to National Sports Organizations or Home Affairs Offices, etc) accompanying the representation. *Please see the ISA rulebook for By-Laws.
Drug Testing
Drug Testing will follow the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) guidelines and will be conducted on or around the final day of competition. All finalists plus three (3) random tests will be conducted. To check on the updated list of banned substances, go to the WADA website www.wada-ama.org.

PRECIO DE INSCRIPCIÓN
Precios de Inscripción y Balance de Pagos
Noten: El precio de inscripción es igual para toda clase de participante (atletas, managers, otros, etc.)
La ISA solo acepta USD$ durante la inscripción de equipos y durante todo el evento. Por favor traigan la cantidad correcta en dólares americanos.
Los precios de inscripción van de USD$175 a USD$200 por participante. La ISA ofrece un precio con descuento de USD $175 por participante si el pago es recibido 10 días antes de que se cierre el registro.

La multa de USD$25 será incluida a los equipos que se registran en el último día. Esto es así incluso si pagan por avanzado pero finalizan el proceso de inscripción y la entrega de documentos el último día. La ISA recomienda que paguen y se inscriban por avanzado.
Para el WJSC 2010:
- Equipos pagarán USD$175 por participante si la inscripción es recibida antes de la noche del 9 de enero del 2010.
- Equipos pagaran USD$200 por participante si la inscripción es recibida entre el 10 y el 18 de enero del 2010.
- Equipos pagaran USD$200 más USD$25 por participante si la inscripción es recibido el 19 de enero del 2010.
- Equipos pagaran USD$25 por participante si la inscripción es recibido por avance pero la inscripción en sí se completa el 19 de enero del 2010.
Noticias:
- Los precios de inscripción son aplicados a cada miembro del equipo. Esto incluye pero no es limitado a: surfistas, managers, coaches, traductores, terapeutas, asistentes y otras personas. Todos los participantes tienen que someter una FORMA DE INDEMNIDAD firmada.
- Un surfista que compite en más de una división debe pagar una inscripción por cada división.
- Los equipos serán responsables pagar la inscripción de todos los participantes, independiente de si luego se presentan o no en el evento.
- Atletas alternativos, reservas o suplentes tienen que ser identificados e inscritos antes de que se cierre la inscripción para poder participar.
- A una nación se le puede negar la participación si tiene un balance de deuda sobresaliente con la ISA. Por favor contacten a la Directora Ejecutiva, Stephanie Keith, a stephaniekeith@isasurf.org para verificar su balance.
INSCRIPCIÓN
La inscripción se llevará a cabo durante los días 17, 18 y 19 de enero. Por favor revisen la ISA's Team Registration Policy para chequear los requisitos, también el Registration Checklist y el Packing List.

- Información de su Hospedaje y Viaje esto incluye su llegada y salida y su hospedaje.
- Pasaportes – Todas las nacionalidades y edades tienen que ser verificadas. El pasaporte y una copia del pasaporte es requisito de la inscripción.
- Athlete Bios biografías de los atletas.
- Therapeutic Use Exemption forms. Este documento puede ser enviado por e-mail o fax a las oficinas de la ISA antes del evento. Es la excención por uso terapéutico.
- Formulario de Indemnizacion para cada participante. Cada persona inscrita tiene que firma y someter un Formulario de indemnización.
Para Competidores Menores de 18 anos: EL FORMULARIO DEBE ESTAR FIRMADO POR EL PADRE O GUARDIÁN LEGAL. SI UN GUARDIÁN LEGAL ES INDICADO, CADA ATLETA DEBE TENER UNA CARTA FIRMADA POR EL PADRE NOTANDO QUIÉN ES SU GUARDIÁN LEGAL - Codigo de Conducta- los formularios deben estar completos y firmados

- Arena: 5 (cinco) libras/2 (dos) kilogramos de arena de las playas de tu país para La Ceremonia de las Arenas del Mundo. Etiqueta el contenedor con el nombre de tu país y el nombre de la playa
- Himno Nacional: solo se tiene que presentar si hay una nueva forma de su himno o si la ISA no lo tiene. Contacta a la ISA para asegurarse.

INFORMACION GENERAL
Representación
Un competidor debe solamente representar un país, si es que éste consta con un pasaporte o certificado que declaren la elegibilidad por el país. Una vez que un competidor ha surfeado por un país en cualquier evento de la ISA, él/ella generalmente no debe surfear por otro país en otro evento internacional sancionado por la ISA. Si un atleta es aceptado para competir por una segunda nación basado en las condiciones establecidas en el Párrafo b de las Reglas a seguir destacadas adelante, él/ella no debería volver a representar a su país de origen.
Excepciones especiales serán consideradas, de todas formas, luego de una presentación al Comité Ejecutivo, por lo menos tres (3) meses previos al comienzo de cualquier evento sancionado por la ISA. Las peticiones de excepción solamente serán consideradas si fueron recibidas por medio del NGB dirigidas al Comité Ejecutivo de la ISA, con copias certificadas de toda la documentación relevante –Pasaporte, letras de/para la organización nacional deportivas-. *Por favor ver el Libro de Reglas de la ISA y sus Leyes.
Edades
*Las edades son consideradas desde el 1º de enero del año de competencia
Un competidor Sub. 18 no puede cumplir 19 entre el 1º de enero y el 31 de diciembre del año en que compiten. De la misma manera, un competidor Sub. 16 no puede cumplir 17 entre el 1º de enero y 31 de diciembre del año en que compite. Una prueba de la edad de los competidores debe ser presentada con la lista del equipo –copia del pasaporte o documento de nacimiento si es requerido-.
*En los WJSC, los surfistas pueden competir en las divisiones Sub. 16 y Sub. 18, o en ambas.
Test Anti Doping

Seguro de viaje
El seguro de viaje es recomendado, como el cuidado de un hospital privado, una importante emergencia o tratamiento de una emergencia –accidente de auto-, puede ser gastos caros de no tener seguro.
Permisos de competencia
A cada competidor, su madre o padre o guardián legal, y team manager se le requerirá firmar el permiso de competencia, que será entregado en el momento de inscribirse.
Código de Conducta
Cada competidor, sus padres o Team Manager serán requeridos de firmar el Código de Conducta, que será entregado al inscribirse.
DETALLES SOBRE EL PAGO
IMPORTANTE – Una nación que tenga deudas a pagarle a la ISA acumuladas no podrá competir.
La ISA también acepta pagos por medio de tarjetas de crédito - ISA Store, " ISA Event Registration Fee".
