I been surfing for 18 years and coaching for 11 years...

First of all I think it was natural to me, whenever I saw someone surfing I observed points in which the person could improve. In tournaments I talked to my friends about the conditions and strategies to qualify to the next heat and I was the one who planned and structured the surf trips of my crew... Then I knew many people who had many questions about surfing and some of them thought it was an impossible activity for them to practice. Since then it has been a pleasure to break taboos introducing the sport of surfing in a correct, safe and fun manner to many who never thought to do it and many who always dreamed. To me there is nothing better than sharing this gift of God which we all live and love called surfing.

I was born in the Canary Islands so my contact with the sea and water sports were natural. The beach was my childhood playground where sailing or surfing was my way to connect with the Ocean. I am specialized in Stand Up Paddle, Coaching SUP Instructors with IOSUP since 2009 and helping others organizations like: Federación Española de Surf, Swiss Surfing Association or Federação Portuguesa de Surf. Since 2012 I´m also official presenter of the ISA SUP courses for Spain.

It is not a decision, it is a way to give back to the world of surfing and its fans what the ocean gave me.

Any place in the world and always with good friends and waves of smiles.

The company that my brothers and I run, "Surf Coach International", runs gap year programs and abroad Surf Camps where Surfers can take the ISA course as apart of a package deal.

I have been surfing for 41 years (I am now 46 years old), of which, 18 Years have been dedicated to competitive surfing and I was on the Irish National surfing team that competed in France in 1992. During my years of surfing I have had very diverse coaching experiences, as surf coaching as we knew it back then was in its infancy. However through my competitive surfing I was always respected within my local community and I did my best to mentor up and coming groms by giving positive advice and feedback to help them succeed in their contest surfing. This was achieved by organised training surf sessions with mock heats, calling the surfer back to the shore for Q&A and feedback. Roles that naturally took me into the coaching arena was being on our regional surfing committee in South Africa for two years back in the eighties, where we considered ourselves to be pioneers of structured coaching which included dedicated surfing sessions , mental and physical training sessions with kung Fu and Karate specialists. I was also Chairman of our local surfing club which is now one of the most respected surfing clubs in South Africa; we were always coaching our groms and teams before any inter club contests. Outside of this I have always simply given advise to mates on surf trips and more recently through our business ventures have been surf instructing and surf coaching for the past 5 years. I have helped within developing our Grom2Ripper Surfing programme, which Surf Coach International would like to “roll out” Nationally. I have however been consistently coaching, training and assessing within the lifeguarding environments for the better part of my life.

To further evolve with the ISA and deliver a standardised coaching programme which is recognised internationally. It is my dream to continue to coach any individual and or nurture a grom into the competitive arena. I have chosen the ISA as I strongly agree that the ISA does give back to surfing and will offer me the best tools for me to become an ISA course presenter and to further develop myself as a surfing trainer / educator and surfing coach.

I do prefer point break waves because most point breaks can offer a lot of variation within your ride. I enjoy all of the SW of France beach breaks when they are pumping. To name a few breaks: La Graviere in Hossegor, Cavaliers in Anglet and many others further North within the Lacanau area. I enjoy Guethary & (Avalanche) for bigger wave surfing in France. I am not a fussy surfer and do not stay and surf at any one particular break, as I am always on the lookout for the best waves where ever I am and am well versed in surfing reef and or slabs, coral, beach and point breaks. I am simply stoked to surf wherever & whenever I can.

Swiming,Tennis, Squash, Skateboarding, Fishing. Most outdoor & water sports given the opportunity.

So many, every break has it's day but if I had to choose I would say Santa Teresa, Costa Rica for the cool Pura Vida vibe and Anchor point, Morocco for the intense vibe and heavy wave...

I have been surfing for 32 years & coaching for about 20 years. I have been coached by the best in the industry in South Africa as a Junior and Senior competitive surfer and have acknowledged, and worked on performance, understanding the ocean, competitive surfing and preparation. I have continuously over the years directly or indirectly supported, mentored and coached surfers in all levels. I have traveled the globe extensively and always offer support and guidance to surfers.

Having competed extensively as a Junior & Senior surfer in South Africa & Internationally, I have gained vast experience from my Coaches, Sponsors & Mentors. This has encouraged me to actively get involved in professional coaching, development & management giving me the tools to enhance performance & contribute positively back into the surfing industry.
