The bcu Australian Surf Festival in Coffs Harbour will live up to its name with a host of land-based activities being held throughout the event from July 31-August 17.
More than 500 surfers from around Australia will contest the two-week surfing showpiece with National titles to be decided in Open Surf Masters, Longboard, Logger and Bodyboard divisions. bcu will also be providing a $100 bank account for the #bcumoneyturn, which will be awarded daily to the surfer who executes the biggest turn as determined by the judges.
Outside of the surfing action a busy line-up of activities, seminars and courses is scheduled.
The festival will host two Surfers Rescue 24/7 courses. Surfers Rescue 24/7 is a free, three-hour CPR and board rescue course. All surfers are welcome to participate in the Surfers Rescue 24/7 program which was established by Surfing NSW to equip surfers with a skill set that may save a life. All participants will receive a nationally accredited CPR Certificate.
The first course will be held on August 6 and the second on August 14 at the contest site on those particular days.
Competitors will also be able to refresh their current skills, upgrade or gain a new nationally recognised Surfing Australia accreditation at one of several Surfing Australia education courses. A Level 1 Coaching Course will be held on August 8-9 and a Level 1 Bodyboarding Course will be held on August 13. Both courses will be conducted at the Park Beach Bowling Club.
Returning to the festival in 2015 is the Surfing NSW Indigenous Surfing Program. The program will see Aborigin al and Torres Strait Islander children from the local community and regional NSW areas get a taste of surfing at Park Beach. The program, on August 8, will see participants learn important water and beach safety skills before grabbing a board and learning how to surf under the expert supervision of Solitary Islands Surf School.
The Hoey Moey will be showcasing the Nikon Surf Photo of the Year Gallery, which features the top 20 finalists in the event.
