Argentina wins South America Aloha Cup

Peru and Venezuela follows in the qualification zone

The South American Zone of the ISA Aloha Cup, the greatest team surfing competition, was held this past weekend in El Mix, Puerto Rico.

Teams from Argentina, Chile, Peru and Venezuela competed in great four to six foot waves, breaking with good shape at the perfect coral reef on the northeast coast of the “Isla del Encanto”.

The Argentinean team won, not only because the great surfing level showed by the recently crowned Latin American Surf Champion, Martín Passeri and Ornella Pellizari, also crowned, for the second time, as the Ladies Latin American Surfing Champion, but also for the great time management displayed during the 40 minute heat, something really important in this kind of competition. Argentina scored 45.3 points, leaving Peru in second.

The Peruvians also did things right, placing second with a score of 43.46.  Due to the great performance of power surfer, the 2003 Latin Champ, Javier Swayne, that scored more than six points on his three waves. Also, the Reef Classic Latin Pro Puerto Rico Junior Champ, Manuel Roncalla, did things right, scoring a 5.67 and a 6.23 for his team.

Venezuela looked unbeatable, with a team that had Magnum Martínez, Jean Carlo Schaffer and David Díaz, but failed on time management.  They were unable to complete the eleven waves to be ridden, scoring 28.33 and placing third but gaining a place in the great regional final.

Chile placed fourth, even with Junior two-time Latin Champ, Manuel Selman as the power surfer and showing a great performance, they also didn’t manage their time properly and ended up scoring 26.94.
