ISA VP Alan Atkins appointed as the Technical Director for the 2009 WJSC
11 March 2009, La Jolla, CA -- The International Surfing Association is proud to announce the appointment of its long time Vice President, Alan Atkins, as the Technical Director for the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship to be held in Salinas, Ecuador from March 28 until April 5.
The Technical Director position has been created to meet the ever growing technical and administrative demands within this ISA flagbearer event. Atkins will be overseeing technical issues in the most important and biggest surfing event for Juniors in the world. The Technical Director will now lead the contest management team of Contest Director and Head Judges. Introduction of this new position is consistent with the ISA’s policy of working to provide a structure to support the professional independence of Judges when adjudicating at ISA events and delivering the best event to our sponsors and member national governing surfing bodies.
Now the hierarchy of operations in an ISA event will be the following: President, Technical Director, Contest Director, Head Judges and Team Managers/Coaches.
Australian Alan Atkins, 60, has an impressive outstanding background in the management of Surfing Organizations and Surfing Events. Atkins surfing credits include CEO of Surfing Australia from 1983 to 2004; National Team Manager for Surfing Australia from 1986 to 2004; Contest Director of the longest running pro surfing event, The Bells Beach Easter Classic (now Rip Curl Pro) from 1980 to 1984; and currently serves as Contest Director for the Noosa Festival of Surfing since 2007.
He became part of the ISA as Secretary General in 1990and an Executive Board Member in 1994. He maintains his position as Vice President today, elected and re-elected for five terms by the National Governing Bodies of the ISA.
Organized by the Olympic Council of Asia, Alan was appointed the Technical ISA Delegate for the inaugural Bali Asian Beach Games in November 2008. This marked the first time surfing was part of such an Olympic competition.
For the 2009 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship, Alan is working hard for everything to be in its place. Alan’s key management staff working to deliver this event will include Contest Director Marcos Bukao (BRA), Head Judges, Glen Elliot (AUS), Cyril Nell (ZAF) and Jordão Bailo (BRA) plus 14 judges selected by the ISA from applications and nominations around the world.
Once again, the ISA will continue the innovative format of a panel of 8 judges during the final stages of the event.

Vicepresidente de la ISA Alan Atkins nombrado Director Técnico del WJSC 2009
11 de marzo de 2009, La Jolla, CA -- La International Surfing Association se enorgullece en anunciar que el Vicepresidente Alan Atkins será el Director Técnico del Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship a ser realizado en Salinas, Ecuador desde el 28 de marzo hasta el 5 de abril.
La posición de Director Técnico ha sido creada para acompañar el marcado crecimiento de las necesidades técnicas y administrativas de los eventos de la ISA. Atkins estará gerenciando todos los asuntos técnicos en el más grande e importante campeonato de surfing para juniors en el mundo.
El Director Técnico estará a cargo durante el evento de las posiciones de Director de Evento y de los Jefes de Jueces. La decisión de crear la posición va de la mano con la política de trabajo de la ISA de proveer una estructura para apoyar la independencia profesional de los jueces en cada evento para brindarle a nuestros patrocinadores y federaciones miembros el mejor campeonato posible.
La nueva jerarquía de operaciones en un evento de la ISA tendrá el siguiente orden: Presidente, Director Técnico, Director del Evento, Jefes de Jueces y Team Managers-Entrenadores.
El australiano Alan Atkins, 60, tiene un impresionante curriculum en la gerencia de organizaciones de surf y eventos. Algunas de sus credenciales incluyen ser el CEO de Surfing Australia desde 1983 hasta 2004, Team Manager del Equipo Nacional Australiano desde 1986 hasta el 2004, Director de Evento del más tradicional campeonato profesional del mundo, el Clásico de Pascuas (ahora Rip Curl Pro) desde 1980 hasta 1984 y es también el Director de Evento del Noosa Festival of Surfing desde 2007 hasta la fecha.
Alan comenzó su camino en la ISA como Secretario General en 1990 y luego como miembro del Comité Ejecutivo desde 1994. Mantiene su posición como Vicepresidente, elegido y reelegido cinco veces tras los votos de las Federaciones Miembro de la ISA.
Alan fue además el Delegado Técnico de la ISA para los inaugurales Juegos Asiáticos de Playa de Bali, organizados por el Comité Olímpico de Asia, en noviembre del 2008. Ésta fue la primera vez que el surfing fue parte de un evento Olímpico de tan grande magnitud.
Para el Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship 2009, Alan está trabajando duro para que todo esté en su lugar. Su staff clave colaborando para hacer de éste evento el mejor, incluye al Director del Evento, Marcos Bukão (BRA), los jefes de jueces Glen Elliot (AUS), Cyril Nell (SAF) y Jordão Bailo (BRA) además de 14 jueces seleccionados por la ISA a partir de las aplicaciones y nominaciones alrededor del mundo.
