Where are you from and where do you currently live?
I am from Holland and live in Scheveningen, Holland

What is the country and region where you conduct ISA Coaching & Instructing Courses?
Primarily Holland, but I also conduct ISA Judging & Officiating Courses in Belgium aswell.

Number of years as a surfer and surf instructor?
Surfing since 1991 (12 yrs old) now, and instructing / coaching since 1997.

Why the decision to become a surf instructor and/or coach?
It came natural after studying Physical Education. In teaching people to surf, I found out you can relive the feeling of your own first wave over and over again. There are not many jobs where you make people happy 100% of the time, especially not these days, in this corporate world.  The slogan of my surfschool is: “Feel better, Go surfing!”, because no matter how you feel, you always feel better surfing!

What are your goals in respects to surf instruction?
It's nice to employ a global standard when it comes to quality and the safety of surf instruction. There is a lot that can be learned from other instructors worldwide.

What is your favorite surf break?
This new sandbar they just built 3 km from my house. It’s called the “zandmotor” (you should google it) and its purpose is to provide the coast north of it with a few extra meters of sand in the next 20 years. It’s the first real dutch pointbreak.

Do you have a hobby other than surfing?
I do a bit of work on old Volkswagens and Vespas. I play a bit of music, and spend the winters abroad surfing with my girlfriend Linde and daughter Noosa.

Who first taught you to surf and where?
My first surf experience was when I was 12 on a holiday to Quiberon, France. I built this little skimboard that I was riding and this German guy came up to me with a big red surfboard under one arm, and in his other hand, his 10 year old son who wanted to try skimboarding. We traded boards for an hour and my life was changed.
