30 Delegations confirmed at the 2007 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships

THE FUTURE OF SURF TO BE PLAYED IN PORTUGAL

19 APRIL 2007 -- 30 national delegations have already confirmed that they will be taking part in the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships, a record that has raised expectations even higher. In the full spirit of the Olympic Games, the competition begins on 4 May in Portugal and confirming that surfing growth as major sport for young people all over the world. 

The best athletes of the world will be present in Portugal and everything is being prepared to the last detail. Costa de Caparica, a beach only a few kilometres from the capital - Lisbon - is the final destination of the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships. Sun, great waves and non-stop action are expected between 4 and 13 May. After Africa, the Pacific and America, it is now Europe’s turn to host the younger people’s major surfing competition.

The best world teams are expected at what is already known as the “Surfing Olympic Games”. The 30 delegations confirmed so far constitute an absolute record of participations in the history of these championships. The countries taking part are: Portugal, New Zealand, Japan, France, United States of America, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Jamaica, Switzerland, Brazil, Chile, Canada, Barbados, South Africa, Ireland, Hawaii, Venezuela, Australia, England, Italy, Guatemala, Spain, Israel, Peru, Germany, Costa Rica, Somalia, Morocco, Ecuador and Tahiti.

Under the sanction of the International Surfing Association [ISA] and the Portuguese Surf Federation, the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships are organized by the Caparica Surfing Club and Natural Factor and sponsored by Quiksilver/Roxy and Almada Municipality. Co-sponsors are Roxy, Plantronics, Sapo and Sagres. Support has also been provided by the Costa Azul Tourist Region, the Portuguese Navy and the parish of Costa de Caparica.
