Guahan Napu Inc., the local non-profit federation of surfers and body-boarders today announces March 5 as the date for the ninth annual Rick’s Reef Classic competition. Competition categories for Rick’s Reef Classic IX are men’s open short board surfing and gender-neutral long board open surfing, body-boarding open and masters short board surfing –– renamed Legends to conform to International Surfing Association (ISA) classification –– for male and female surfers over 50 years of age. This year, the federation is bringing back the women’s open surfing category by popular demand and eliminating the junior surfing division due to a lack of age-appropriate (13- to 18-year-olds) contestants. Contest fee is $30 per competitor per category and includes a competition T-shirt plus one-year Guahan Napu membership.

A refresher judging clinic will be held on Tuesday, March 1. Registration for the contest will open on Thursday, March 3, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the lobby of Sheraton Laguna Guam Resort. If the contest is held over to March 19, sign ups will be re-scheduled to March 17. For immediate updates on changes to contest schedule, follow Guahan Napu on Facebook.
