Guahan Napu Inc., the local non-profit federation of surfers and body-boarders, is re-scheduling the eighth annual Rick’s Reef Classic competition to the first holdover date of March 14.  The contest was to have been held on February 28; however, wind directions have not produced the right direction of waves for a quality event.

“We’ve been experiencing strong northerly direction winds this entire February which are not producing favorable wave conditions.  For a good contest, waves at Rick’s Reef should come from the northwest with easterly winds,” said Willi Byerly, contest director and Guahan Napu Inc. president. “We would like to ensure that we meet the expectations of our sponsors, competitors and spectators with a quality event.”

The judges’ refresher course will also be held over to March 11.

Rick’s Reef Classic VIII is made possible with financial sponsorships from Rolling Rock, Guam Visitors Bureau, JJ Global Services, SPPC 76 Circle K, First Hawaiian Bank and Tumon Bay Lobster and Grill.  In-kind donations are contributed by Da Kine, Primo Surf, Trivision Media, Proa Restaurant, DNA EVO, Fokai Industries and Lotus Surf Shop.
